ELASTIC & 6G-PATH Webinar: Intelligent Orchestration across the Edge–Cloud Continuum

The ELASTIC and 6G-PATH SNS JU projects are jointly organising a webinar focused on orchestration across distributed edge–cloud environments.

As next-generation infrastructures become more complex, efficient orchestration is essential for enabling scalable, flexible, and reliable service deployment. This session will present practical approaches developed in both projects, with a focus on how intelligent automation and lightweight orchestration can support emerging 6G systems.

What this webinar is about

The webinar will highlight two complementary orchestration approaches.

From 6G-PATH, participants will be introduced to MIRO, an AI-native multi-domain orchestration framework designed to support intelligent coordination across complex environments. From ELASTIC, the session will present Propeller, a lightweight orchestration solution aimed at enabling flexible and efficient service deployment in distributed edge–cloud settings.

Together, these approaches address key challenges in managing heterogeneous infrastructures and help support secure, adaptable, and high-performance 6G services.

Key takeaways

Key insights into AI-driven and lightweight orchestration for efficient, scalable edge–cloud services and future 6G systems.

AI-driven orchestration for multi-domain environments (MIRO)

Speakers

Prof. Tarik Taleb

Tarik Taleb is a Full Professor at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, where he leads the Chair of Networked Energy‑Efficient Systems and the MOSA!C Lab. His research focuses on next‑generation mobile networks, including 5G and emerging 6G architectures, cloud–edge continuum orchestration, network automation, and AI‑driven network management. Prof. Taleb is a highly cited researcher and serves as Founder and Director of ICTFICIAL, a global research network advancing intelligent connectivity and AI‑enabled communication systems. He has held academic positions at the University of Oulu and Aalto University, and industry experience as a senior researcher and 3GPP standards expert at NEC Europe, contributing extensively to international research initiatives and the development of future communication systems.

Dr. Dhouha Ayed

Dhouha Ayed is an expert in 5G and systems security with over 18 years of experience at Thales. Her academic background includes a PhD from Télécom Sud-Paris, an M.Sc., and an engineering degree in Computer Science. Prior to Thales, her research experience at Katholieke University of Leuven further solidified her foundation. As the technical coordinator of numerous European research projects, Dhouha has honed her expertise in designing cutting-edge security solutions for systems and future networks. She actively participates in shaping the field through European working groups and standardization bodies where she delves into the critical challenges facing future networks with the power of AI.

Drasko Draskovic

Drasko is an IoT and cloud-computing expert with over 20 years of professional experience. He hacked embedded Linux SW and HW device drivers, designing complex wireless systems in telecom industry: he was working on OMAP platform in Texas Instruments, designed 4G multi-protocol femto-cells in Alcatel-Lucent and worked on 5G and blockchain solutions in Nokia. Drasko earned his reputation in open-source community as an author of numerous projects – like WeIO or Mainflux. He is one of the main contributors of the Linux Foundation’s EdgeX Foundry project where he served in Technical Steering Committee, and won various contribution and innovation rewards. Currently, Drasko serves as a technical manager of CONFIDENTIAL6G, a large-scale EU research project that focuses on Confidential Computing and post-quantum cryptography. Drasko is an author of the book “Scalable Architecture for the Internet of Things” published by O’Reilly and vivid conference speaker, sharing his thoughts on modern software design and how future Internet should be designed. He holds a MSc in Electrical Engineering from Belgrade University.

Despina Kopanaki

Despina Kopanaki is a Senior Project Manager at the Technical University of Crete (TUC) and the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH). Since 2018, she has been responsible for the day-to-day management and operational coordination of several EU-funded research and innovation projects, bringing over eight years of continuous experience in European project leadership and management. She has played a key role in several Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects, including I-BiDaaS, MARVEL, SecOPERA, and ELASTIC, and has contributed to more than 30 European and national projects in areas such as data analytics, privacy, big data, and security. Her expertise also includes roles as Ethics Lead, Quality and Risk Manager, and Data Management Plan Lead. Despina holds a BSc in Statistics and an MSc in Applied Economics and Finance from the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). She has also worked as a researcher at the University of Piraeus, focusing on data analytics, privacy-preserving mobility data management, and knowledge discovery.
